The Swedish Historians' Meeting held for the 24th time

Director of Studies Fredrik Eriksson and three students at the Swedish Defence University's Master's Programme Krig, kultur och samhälle recently held presentations at the historians' meeting in Umeå.

Fredrik Eriksson presented the results of his book From the Savolax Brigade to the Special Protection Group: Swedish Special Operations and Special Units from the Middle Ages to 1999" during the session " War, war crimes and intelligence activities".

At the session "War, culture and society: on military culture, security policy self-understanding and information and idea migration", three of the Swedish Defence University's master's students in military history presented their thesis projects. The topics were Intelligence operations during the Cold War, Swedish military orientalism and Swedish semi-military support to FRELIMO during the 1960s and 1970s.

This was the first time master's students presented thesis projects at the conference, which was appreciated by the participants.

The Swedish Historians' Meeting is a conference series that was started by the Swedish Historical Society in 1999 and is held every three years. This year's Historians Meeting took place at Umeå University in mid-June and gathered more than 300 historians from all over the country.

The Military History Division at the Swedish Defence University was represented by Fredrik Eriksson, senior lecturer and director of studies, Fredrik Thisner, associate professor and programme director, Per Eliasson, deputy head of department and by master's students Erik Gutiérrez-Aranda, Christian Kjellsson and Andreas Ohlsson.

The Military History Division at the Swedish Defence University celebrates 150 years in 2023, which will be celebrated during the autumn.
