Choosing from the search results
Strive for a systematic approach in your search, and document the way you searched.
Do I need to find all the research previously written in my subject area? In the limited time available for essay work, this is usually not reasonable. The number of scholarly articles published today is vast.
Have a systematic approach in your search, document how you searched and ask your supervisor questions if you are in doubt. For example, if you have doubts about whether it is advisable to use a publication as a source, discuss it with your supervisor.
When you search, you can narrow your search results by continually reviewing your search terms and search results and re-examining your searches. Use the ability of search services to restrict searches to scholarly articles, time periods or authors.
Take part in the library's teaching sessions and seek help from a librarian if you get stuck in your search.
