Military Operational Writing

The course Military Operational Writing is at the undergraduate level for employees in the total defence who write, or are expected to write, texts in English. The course provides you with the prerequisites to communicate correctly and effectively in written military English.

The course covers the following themes:

• Military Writing Style
• Correspondence
• Orders
• Reports
• After Action Reviews

Each theme includes specific military vocabulary for that context.

Upon completion of the course, you are expected to have knowledge of how to write in English to communicate effectively.

Target group and prior knowledge

The course is aimed at those who have knowledge of the English language equivalent to B1.2 (English A/5) and who write, or are expected to write in English.

Planned approach and scope

The course consists of 5 online lessons during the autumn of 2024 that will be conducted on 27/9, 4/10, 18/10, 8/11, 22/11. Before and after each lesson, you are expected to spend 6 hours in pre- and post-work.

The course is conducted remotely via our learning platform Canvas, and the lessons take place via Zoom.

The course is carried out by the Language Centre at the Swedish Defence University.
