Giacomo Cuscunà is a Doctoral Student in War Studies at the Swedish Defence University. His current research explores the relational dynamics and the degree of (in)compatibility or complementarity between humanitarian actors and organisations and civil society initiatives providing aid to civilians while simultaneously contributing to the military defence system of Ukraine.
Prior to this current position, Giacomo has contributed to the ODIHR Ukraine Monitoring Initiative and served with the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, as well as with the UNHCR and several non-governmental organisations in Ukraine, Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Italy. He continues to deploy for short-term missions with the ODIHR Ukraine Monitoring Initiative.
His research interests include armed conflicts, humanitarian affairs, international humanitarian law, and human rights.
Giacomo holds a Magister in Global Studies from the University of Gothenburg and a Master's Degree in International and Diplomatic Studies from the University of Trieste, where he also completed his undergraduate studies.
