Professor Aida Alvinius is Head of the Research Environment for Management and Collaboration in Civil Defence (LedSamCF). She is Professor of Leadership and Command and Control and serves as Programme Director of the Master’s Programme in Leadership and Command and Control for Crisis, Defence, and Security.
Her research is situated at the intersection of leadership studies, crisis management, military sociology, public administration, and organizational analysis. A central theme in her work concerns how organizations, leaders, and professions respond under conditions of uncertainty, pressure, rapid change, and societal disruption. This includes research on crisis leadership in public administration, leadership and command and control in defence and security contexts, and the organizational dynamics that emerge when institutions are required to expand, adapt, and coordinate at speed.
Alvinius has a strong research profile in military sociology and leadership under stress, with particular attention to the Armed Forces and the challenges associated with hypergrowth, organizational transformation, and increased demands on defence capability. Her work also examines the social and professional dimensions of crisis management, including gendered aspects of crisis work and the conditions faced by female-dominated professions in times of disruption.
Through her research and academic leadership, she contributes to the development of knowledge on how civil defence, public-sector organizations, and security actors can strengthen their capacity for leadership, coordination, and collaboration. Her work bridges academic analysis and practical application, offering insights relevant to defence, crisis preparedness, public administration, and broader societal resilience.
