Air and Space Centre

The Air and Space Centre at the Swedish Defence University is a collaborative knowledge environment for research, education and development focusing on the air and space domains. Its activities are based on the needs of the military defence and bring together expertise from the Swedish Defence University, the Swedish Armed Forces and external partners.

The Air and Space Centre is part of the Institute for Warfare at the Swedish Defence University. By linking academic knowledge development with military practice, the Centre contributes to the development of knowledge in modern warfare and military capability development.

Support and coordinate

The purpose of the Air and Space Centre is to support and coordinate studies of issues relating to the air and space domains within research, development and education. The Centre serves as a long-term forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience and can provide support in areas including analysis, concept and methodology development, studies, and the development of education and expertise.

Its activities encompass both research and more directly conducted activities. Focus, participants and working methods are adapted according to the issue being addressed, the needs identified and the form of collaboration..

How we work

The Air and Space Centre is organised as a flexible, network-based and project-oriented environment. Its activities include, for example:

• academic and applied research,
• a seminar series open to researchers and practitioners from SEDU, the Swedish Armed Forces, other partner government agencies and external partners,
• supervision of independent degree projects in collaboration with the Joint Advanced Command and Staff Programme,
• research and the conduct of wargames, field exercises and scenario-based exercises,
• workshops and educational activities,
• concept and methodology development, as well as analysis and support for studies, and
• the exchange of knowledge and experience with Swedish and international partners.

The Air and Space Centre collaborates with the Swedish Armed Forces, other research environments, the defence industry and Swedish and international partners through, among other things, research, studies, seminars, workshops, exercises and gaming activities.
