The Swedish Defence University graduation ceremony for civilian students is for those who have applied for and received a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Magister degree from the Swedish Defence University. The registration period for 2026 is closed.

Graduation Ceremonies 2026

Ceremony and Reception

The Graduation Ceremony consists of a formal ceremony in Sverigesalen, followed by a reception with drinks and canapés at the Officers’ Mess and Restaurant Propellern. The ceremony is expected to last approximately one hour.

Dress code: Smart/festive attire

Ceremony Times – 22 October

15:00: Higher Education Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Reception from approximately 16:00 until 17:30.

17:00: Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degrees in Leadership and Command, and Bachelor’s Degree in International Operational Law. Reception from approximately 18:00 until 19:30.

18:30: Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Military History. Reception from approximately 19:30. The Officers’ Mess closes at 21:00.

Ceremony Times – 23 October

16:00: Master’s Degrees in War Studies and Master’s Degree in International Operational Law. Reception from approximately 17:00 until 18:30.

18:00: Master’s Degrees in Political Science and Defence Systems. Reception from approximately 19:00 until 20:30.

Seating During the Ceremony

Graduates will have reserved seats, with names and degree programmes indicated, at the front of Sverigesalen so that diplomas can be presented in alphabetical order. Guests may choose any of the remaining seats.

Presentation of Diplomas

Graduates will be invited forward one row at a time, approximately ten people at a time, to receive their diploma in a diploma holder from the Programme Director and a representative of the University Management.

Following a fanfare, the graduates will return to their seats. If there are a large number of graduates receiving the same degree, the diploma presentation will be repeated in groups.

Master of Ceremonies and Music

The ceremony will be led by Master of Ceremonies Jonas Henrysson. Music will be performed by a sextet from the Swedish Army Band.

Photography

Photography is permitted during the Graduation Ceremonies, with two restrictions: the security/reception desk and our security guards must not be photographed.

The Swedish Defence University will have a photographer present to take photographs during the ceremonies. If you or your guests do not wish to be photographed, please avoid the photographer.

If you are a graduate, it may be difficult to avoid being photographed during the ceremony. If you do not wish to appear in any photographs, please contact us in advance at examensceremoni@fhs.se.

Entry and Cloakroom

All guests must be registered in advance with their Swedish personal identity number (or another valid ID number). Everyone will be checked against the guest list on arrival and must present valid identification.

A staffed cloakroom will be available free of charge.
