Quality assurance
The Swedish Defence University is committed to maintaining high standards in both education and research. To achieve this, the University works systematically and continuously to evaluate, monitor and enhance its degree programmes.
Quality assurance is a shared responsibility of the Swedish Defence University’s staff and students. It depends on a strong quality culture throughout the organisation, a commitment to continuous improvement, and leadership that fosters development. The Quality Policy (PDF, 336.7 kB) sets out the objectives and organisation of the University’s quality assurance work.
At the Swedish Defence University, the Research and Education Board (FoUN) has overall responsibility for the quality assurance of research and education.
On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Board evaluates all degree programmes over a six-year cycle. These evaluations are intended, among other things, to demonstrate how systematic quality assurance is carried out at the local level and to support the continuous enhancement of programme quality.
Following the Swedish Higher Education Authority’s (UKÄ) review in 2019, which resulted in the assessment “quality assurance processes called into question”, the Swedish Defence University implemented substantial improvements. All assessment areas have now been approved.
In its most recent assessment, UKÄ concluded that the University has implemented reasonable and appropriate measures. The University’s analysis of previously identified shortcomings was found to be satisfactory, and its quality assurance system is now considered satisfactory across all assessment areas.
